About us PDF Print E-mail

The IKSDP-Harambee Project was started in 1983 in Nyandiwa village, on the shore of Lake Victoria (Suba District - Kenya), and still is going on. During these years, the Brownsea Foundation in partnership with the Kenya Scout Association, the World Scout Bureau-Africa and local population, has realized many projects and provided a lot of services. The NYANDIWA INTERNATIONAL SCOUT CENTRE - IKSDP (International-Kenya Scout Development Project), which is managed by a local team, is the propellant power of all these initiatives.

In this last 50 years the Brownsea Foundation onlus (NGO organization) has implemented many educational programs for young people, international cooperation and development projects. The Brownsea Foundation draws its inspiration from the International Scout Movement principle and educational methodology.

The Brownsea Foundation is currently running two projects: Harambee Gwassi Kenya and Harambee Ethiopia. In swahili language, “harambee” means “work together”. This is attitude that moves our Projects in order to share the needs assessment, to plan togheter things to do, to create friend relationships, to sprea a peace-oriented attitude and to prevent any kind of prejudice. We extend the Scout Movement educational values to the whole community development: indeed, the main purpose of Projects is to promote the self-development and the empowerment of the local community, through educational actions, with full respect of human dignity and the experience of local population. Our actions are not just aid. All the actions that we promote aim to get involved the local community directly in order to empower them in the autonomous management of the realizations.
